Birth Doula Support in Yorkshire

Continuous, calm and compassionate support through pregnancy, birth and beyond.

You deserve to feel safe, informed and supported as you move towards meeting your baby.

This is about being held… emotionally, physically and practically — so you can focus on your experience, your body and your choices.

What is a Doula?

How I support you -

It is a relationship that builds over time.

We spend time preparing together, so you feel informed, steady and ready.

  • Debrief of previous birth/s

  • Exploring your birth preferences and options

  • Understanding how your body works in labour including biomechanics for birth techniques

  • Practical tools for comfort and coping

  • Support for partner and/or other family members present at birth

  • Space to talk through any fears, questions or previous experiences

  • Positive support and advocacy, reassurance and guidance

  • Transferring from home to hospital once in labour

  • Massage and Acupressure - in labour

  • Breathing techniques to keep you calm and birth baby

  • Help navigating decisions as they arise

  • Alternative pain relief methods not using drugs

  • Birth pool hire and set up included for home births

  • Help with breastfeeding

  • Supporting your bonding with baby

A Doula is an emotional and physical support during pregnancy, birth and in the postpartum months providing continuity of care. It is not a clinical role, instead Doulas work alongside midwives and doctors. A Doula’s role is to provide fact based information - not to offer advice, and be an advocate for mother and any family present at the birth. There is substantial evidence that having the support of a Doula at birth improves experience and birthing outcomes.

You will come across Birth Doulas and Postpartum Doulas. Birth Doulas in large work antenatally, during birth and offer limited sessions postnatally. Postpartum Doulas support after birth, usually at home for a period of time to suit you.

I do not replace your medical team.
I work alongside them, supporting you.

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.”

  • “Virginia was there for me physically & she encouraged me during my labour. She made sure I was left alone to birth my baby without intervention.”

  • “Virginia was amazing during my labour. She supported me physically and emotionally. My labour & birth was intense but she kept calm throughout. She also made sure I felt safe and cared for. I couldn’t have done it without Virginia, she managed to catch my baby with my partner before the midwives arrived. I thank God that Virginia was available.”

  • “My needs mattered as much as the needs of my baby. She enabled me to make informed decisions about my body that withstood pressure and medical jargon.”
